MAIF travel insurance: All you need to know

Unlike some insurers, MAIF does not offer a specific, independent travel insurance contract. In fact, travel cover is included in its comprehensive home insurance policy (MRH). This cover is optional and is available in all 3 formulas.

What does MAIF travel insurance cover?

MAIF travel insurance, included in your comprehensive home insurance policy (MRH), offers a classic range of cover for your travels. Here's an overview of the cover we offer:

Assistance and coverage of medical expenses

  • Medical expenses and hospitalization abroad: MAIF travel insurance covers up to €80,000 per beneficiary. This coverage applies in addition to social security, provided you are insured with a medical or health insurance organization. It is important to note that viral diseases, including Covid-19, are not covered by this insurance.
  • Repatriation: In the event of medical need, MAIF, in conjunction with Inter Mutuelles Assistance (IMA), organizes and pays for the repatriation of the insured and his/her family to their home or the nearest hospital. Medical expenses incurred abroad are covered up to €80,000, after intervention by the social security authorities.

Luggage insurance

  • Baggage theft: In the event of baggage theft, MAIF offers assistance and can provide a cash advance to cover urgent and unforeseen expenses. However, it is important to note that the precise coverage of luggage may vary depending on the home insurance contract taken out.

Cancellation insurance

  • Cancellation cover: MAIF's trip cancellation option offers cover for events such as serious illness, death, redundancy, and accidents requiring the insured's presence at home. This option is available with a reimbursement ceiling of €2,000 for an individual and €5,000 for a family package.

Civil liability

MAIF's civil liability insurance covers material, immaterial or bodily damage caused to third parties, whether in France or abroad. It is important to note that the conditions of application and ceilings of this coverage may vary outside the European Union.

Optional warranties

MAIF also offers additional options that can increase reimbursement limits, such as personal accident insurance or luggage loss or theft insurance. These options are available in conjunction with your home insurance contract, and can provide additional protection when you're on the move.

It's important to note that MAIF travel insurance cover may vary according to the formula chosen in the MRH policy. It is therefore advisable to consult the general conditions or speak to an advisor for full details of the cover offered.

What are the exclusions of MAIF travel insurance?

MAIF travel insurance includes certain exclusions. Here are some common examples:

  1. Viral infections: Viral infections, including Covid-19, are not covered by MAIF travel insurance.
  2. Risky activities: Risky activities such as extreme sports or professional competitions may be excluded from coverage.
  3. Use of alcohol or drugs: Accidents or incidents occurring under the influence of alcohol or drugs may not be covered.
  4. Intentional acts: Damage caused intentionally by the insured is generally not covered.
  5. War and terrorism: Events related to war, acts of terrorism or riots may be excluded from coverage. It is important to consult the general terms and conditions of the MAIF travel insurance policy for a complete list of specific exclusions.

What are the rates for MAIF travel insurance?

The price of MAIF travel insurance is not directly available, as it is a guarantee added to the multi-risk home insurance contract (MRH).

The price of property insurance can vary depending on a number of factors, such as the value of the insured property, its location, the cover chosen and the additional options selected. We therefore recommend that you contact MAIF for a personalized quote based on your specific needs.

Fairjungle's opinion

Although MAIF travel insurance offers a number of useful coverages abroad, the link with MRH home insurance makes it difficult to be flexible. We therefore recommend that you take out a dedicated travel insurance policy, which will firstly enable you to benefit from specific and often more appropriate cover, and secondly allow you to manage it more easily (subscription period, price, etc.).
